Download your records and make a family handover pack

Keep copies that open without the website, and leave your family something they can use.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings → Download everything.
  2. Download the catalog. It's a spreadsheet plus a data file with every detail, including sold and archived items.
  3. Download each photos part listed. They're your original photos, in ZIP files of about 250 MB each. If you keep receipts or appraisals on your items, download Receipts and appraisals too.
  4. Download the insurance report. If you've made movies, download them from Movies.
  5. For something easier for your family, open Settings → Family handover pack, write a note if you'd like, and choose Save the note and download.
  6. Unzip it and open Read me first to check the letter, the spreadsheet, the report and the photos before you hand it over.

What's in the family pack

A letter that describes the collection and where things are stored, your note, a spreadsheet of the catalog, the insurance report (when the collection fits in one), a medium-size main photo of each item, and the receipts and appraisals you keep on your items. It's much smaller than the full photo download.

What to write

Say which pieces belong together, which ones mean the most to you, where the boxes are, and who your family can ask for help. That's what makes a list of trains useful to someone else.

Keep a fresh copy

Download again as the collection changes, and keep the files together so the letter, the list and the photos stay easy to find.

Stories and wishes

Recorded stories go in the pack's stories folder, and the letter has their words. If you've noted who each piece is meant for, the letter lists them under "Who should have what". That's a wish written in the catalog, not a legal will.
