Name a family contact and invite people
Let someone see or help with the collection, and name who we should contact if it lapses.
Step by step
- As the owner, open Settings. Under Family contact, fill in their name and email and choose Save.
- To let someone in, go to People → Invite someone on the same page.
- Type their email and choose Viewer (can look, not change) or Editor (can add and change items).
- Choose Send invitation. They follow the link in the email and join using that email address.
- Use People to change someone's role or remove them. You can cancel an invitation that hasn't been used yet.
A contact isn't a member
Naming a family contact doesn't let them see the collection. Invite them as well if you'd like them to look or help. If a paid subscription lapses, the family contact is told, so the record isn't lost.
Which role to choose
Viewers can look at the collection. Editors can add and change items. The owner also looks after the subscription, the settings and who's invited. Photo box drafts stay hidden from viewers until they're checked.
Invitation trouble
If an invitation has run out or been cancelled, ask the owner to send a new one. If you're signed in with a different email, sign out and use the address the invitation was sent to.
More than one collection
If you belong to more than one collection (your own and a parent's, say), a Switch to line above the collection's tabs takes you straight to the others.
Hand the collection to someone else
Owners: Settings → Hand the collection to someone else. Choose someone already in the collection, type your password and choose Offer it to them. They get an email and a card with Accept and No thanks; the offer lasts 14 days. If they accept, they become the owner and you stay in as an editor. If you pay for a subscription, cancel it first (you keep full use until it runs out); their first payment then waits until that day.
