Import a spreadsheet

Bring in a list you already keep, and check the preview before anything is added.

Step by step

  1. In your spreadsheet program, save the list as a CSV file, with column headings in the first row.
  2. Choose + Add → Import a spreadsheet, pick your file, and choose Preview.
  3. Check How we read your columns. If a column was missed or matched to the wrong field, choose the right one from its menu and choose Check again. No need to change your file.
  4. Look at You may already have these: rows whose catalog number is already in your collection are left out unless you tick them. Then look over the sample items and the reasons any rows were skipped.
  5. Choose Add with the number of items shown to bring them in, or Start over to try a different file.

Headings that are understood

Title, Manufacturer, Catalog number, Scale, Road name, Road number, Type, Condition, Box, Price paid, Value, Value as of, Date bought, Bought from, Serial number, Location, Description, Story, Status and Tags. A Notes column goes into Description.

File and plan limits

Upload a CSV file, not an Excel, Numbers or OpenDocument file. A file can be up to 5 MB and 5,000 rows. Everything being imported has to fit in the room left on your plan before it can go ahead; want-list rows don't take up room.

Importing the same file twice

Import always adds new items; it doesn't update ones you already have. The preview leaves out rows whose catalog number you already have, unless you tick them. If an import went wrong, you can undo it (below).

Undo an import

Right after an import, the list says Undo this import; older imports are listed in Settings → Spreadsheet imports. Undoing moves that import's items to the Archive, where you can bring any of them back. Items you changed since the import (edited, or given photos, papers or a loan) are listed first, and only moved if you tick the box.
